Kam Leong Chan (Shin)

Kam Leong Chan (Shin) Originally from Malaysia, Shin has been based in Sydney since mid-2003 where he obtained his qualification, Bachelor of Business from University of Technology Sydney (UTS). He also completed his MBA degree in 2007 from UTS. In 2009, Shin was admitted as a Certified Practicing Accountant of Australia (CPAA). He then started his accountancy and taxation practice, True Elite Business Services Pty. Ltd. from 2010. In 2015, Shin was admitted as a Chartered Accountant with Malaysia Institute of Accountants (MIA), and in 2017, Shin was admitted as a Chartered Accountant with Chartered Accountant Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ). In 2021, Shin had further advance his CPA status to being a Fellowship Member of CPA which signifies his extensive knowledge and experience within the field. He was also a lecturer of Financial Accounting in an Australian Degree Program.

Shin has been working with the family business as an accountant and business advisor even from his university days. His family firm "Truelite Trading Sdn. Bhd." which is based in Malaysia since 1970's specializes in the lighting industry and is well-reputed within the industry. Shin played a major role in reconstructing the accountancy division of the firm to have a more systematic and procedural accountancy process. In addition, he has been maintaining the up-keeping of the accountancy books and cash flow in order to improve the business activities and debt management.

From 2006, Shin worked as an in-house accountant in a large Australian legal firm which specializes in the commercial field. He was fully in charge of maintaining both the office accounts and trust accounts, which is strictly regulated. His experience within the firm includes the full process bookkeeping & payroll, managing of cash flow, budgeting, financial controlling, and management reporting. Later, Shin was promoted as the office manager to overlook the firm's operations, leading a team of 20 people. Shin maintained his accountancy tasks and further became more involved in the strategic management of the firm for mid and long run perspectives. He played an important role in assisting with the incorporation of the firm towards listing the company. He also put risk management criteria, structured policies and control procedures in place.

After that, Shin moved his career step to the treasury department of Fitness First Australia to manage clubs' accounts national-wide.

Being an individual who actively seeks challenges and not being want to tied up to repetitive daily work, Shin realized that his interest lies within the public practice of the accountancy profession. To pursuit his interest, he joined a boutique public practice (Chartered Accountant) firm located at Double Bay in September 2008, from where he expanded his knowledge significantly within the accountancy and taxation field. He specialized in business formation and structuring, preparing the financial accounts, taxation planning, and preparing the taxation returns for the various structures of businesses. His professioncy allowed him to build high level relationship and trust with his clients.

In September 2010, Shin started his own practice "True Elite Business Services Pty. Ltd." in both Sydney and Melbourne, bringing a new beginning to the legacy of the "True Elite" / "Truelite" brand.

Having an interest in mentoring mentees, Shin undertook an additional challenge of being a lecturer of Financial Accounting in one of the Australian Degree Programs on a casual basis. Due to additional family commitments, Shin was not able to continue teaching in 2018 even after being offered an on-going role by the University.

Shin always believes that taxation is an important part of our life as it affects almost all individuals, therefore an extensive knowledge on how the tax system operates is integral. Shin spends most of his personal time on courses and readings to ensure that he constantly keeps up-to-date with all the latest legislation information.
